I believe that the black speckles on the gill give it away as a temensis. I have seen larger specimens of temensis that lose the three black bars and all of the lighter spots on the body, especially large colorful ones like this one.
 
Yes, it's a temensis---well at least for now. There are a few people working on some new Cichla taxonomy. Perhaps we'll see this as a new species down the road here. Does anyone know where the fish was caught at??
 
OK. Keep in mind that coloration is largely related to mineral and chemical properties of the water as well as dietary. Also, don't forget that all Cichla are highly, highly variable fishes and there is considerable variation in specimens from just one locality---let alone from several localities. In the end, a picture is nice but I would need the actual fish in front of me to really tell you what it is (or what it isn't).
