what kind of plants can i put in a refugium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have Chaetomorpha in mine.

i would just get cheato, as some plants can cause problems. ill look it up because i forget, but i recomend just cheato

Depends on how you do things...a lot of people will talk down caluerpa, but if giving a constant photo period, it wont go asexual, and it grows super fast. The excess can be fed out to tangs as well. Chaeto although more "stable" doesnt grow as fast, and cannot be fed out.

Chaetomorpha Algae, A.K.A:Spaghetti Algae or Green Hair Algae, cheato is an excellent macro algae for refugiums. Each cell grows end to end, creating long, stiff strands. It grows in filamentous clumps, resembling a ball of fishing line. This algae is fast growing and is not palatable to many herbivorous species.
Chaetomorpha Algae removes both phosphates and nitrates from the water.

Their purpose is to suck nitrates and phosphates.

Some have said that caluerpa will leach toxins. In 8 years of keeping SPS LPS and softies I have never had issues with h2o discoloration, my plants going sexual, or any other issues.

But my lighting has always been consistent. Chaeto is just bomb proof...thats why people use it.

I just recently bought some Red Gracilaria. I throw a clump in my tank from time to time for the tangs. I just keep the rest in the fuge so they don't eat it all. Any pros/cons of this stuff or is it just neutral?
