I have a 180 gallon and i have two severums, 1 datnoids, one royal pleco, and one giraffe nose catfisj. I'm wanting to add a puffer and I'm not sure what kind. I'm thinking of either a south american puffer or congo. Ive ready differe.t information on the congo so I'm a little confused. What do you guys think? Congo or south american puffer?

Adding a puffer to a community tank is not a wise choice. Most puffers will harass and nip fins badly, or get eaten themselves if they are the smaller species.

South American and Congos will not work with your stock. They will get beaten up. Remember that if your puffer gets eaten, it will poison whatever eats it and both fish die.
The only puffer that may work is Palembangensis. I've had success with them in communities, but there's no guarantees.

^ I've kept palembangs as well, and while i agree it might work, its a very big risk to take as you said, since if any of those fish pick on the puffer, it definitely wouldn't hesitate to take a chunk out of one...
