what kind of rock is this and can i put in my fish tank?

Looks a bit like shale held together by clay, may start to break up once it's submerged.
You can test if it's gonna dissolve by dripping some vinegar on it, if it fizzes then maybe best not to put it in the tank.
I would do the vinegar test and if it doesn't fizz then I would put it in a rubbermaid for a week, fill with boiling (or hot as possible) water to see if it's going to come apart.

i agree with the first poster, if it's shale it isn't gonna work but go ahead and try the vinegar and hot water to see if it erodes

i did the vinegar test and the dirt i couldn't get off is the only thing that fissed
