I want to put sand in my tank but i don't know what kind I heard you can you play sand but I wasn't sure and I have a aquaclear 110 on would that sand hurt the filter if sucked up. Here a link to homedepot of sand i was looking at, also where could i get other colors like black of something else natural looking.

play sand is way too dirty and to small and light so its easier for the intakes to pick it up...get pool filter sand..I have it on all of my tanks. its heavier and doesnt get sucked up by your vacuum. I use ac 110s and yes even the pool filter sand gets in there so either put a prefilter sponge on your intake or buy extra impellers because it will eat them up..of course i have big oscars that move the sand around a lot maybe smaller fish wont give you such a problem...pool filter sand is like 10 bucks for a 50 lb bag. its a very nice white color. you can get black sand from your lfs (tahitian moon sand?) buts its pricey

pool filter is much better. the black sand is very fine that gets sucked up a lot more then play sand does.
