What kind of tankmates I can keep with Gars

Dear Community.

I am thinking to add 1 Gar to my son's tank. It's our actually since I have to take care the tank most of the time and he's just playing on his Playstation. We have some Parrot Fish, Arowana, Tinfoil Barbs and some severums. If I put the Gars in, will he going to eat those fish later on when he gets bigger ?

Sounds like you already have a few monsters n there. What size tank are these in? You can keep FL/spotted gars in a 240gal with these fish. These gars grow to about 2 feet. Other gar species will require larger tanks.

As usual Oddball said it all I have a gar in with an Arow some large clown loach and some other things he is not at all aggressive and is quite happy in there with his tank mates.

i have 2 spotted gars and 1 shortnose gar with my 2 aros and my gourami. everyone is fine and dandy.

It should be mentioned, just in caution, that not all Gar / Aro mixes turn out so well and that care should be taken when mixing such fish.

Aros sometimes turn on the gars and begin bullying them, or in other cases the gars may begin feeding aggressivily and prevent the aro from getting enough food. Just a heads up for common issues.

I have a spotted gar with a silver arowana, 2 clarias, a clown knife, a tiger shovelnose and a pleco. They all eat frozen fish and squid, as well as pellets.

i found the spotted gars to be quite mellow. I've had them for about 1.5 months now in my 180g with my aro, bichirs, pbass and all of them get along great. ethnics spotted gars are as mellow as mine, his shortnose gar on the other hand is a different story
