Hello! Hoping I've just been spoiling this guy with a good diet and adequate space, but he's showing no slowing down of growing.

It's supposed to be a Purple Wolffish, but I've found little evidence of one clearing 10in let alone almost 15in!!

He's at about 14 inches and growing and girthing up too! Like wtf haha.
Is this a misidentified Erythrinus?

Definitely a Purple Wolfish. Had a small one given to me a few years ago it was over 8 inches when it died. Also thick girth like yours.

That’s a big wolf! Especially considering the purples are supposed to max out smaller than the reds. A side profile would help with getting an ID, but I’d go with tlindsey tlindsey ’s guess (I only have a red so I’m not sure on all the differences).

I'll see if I can get a vid of a side profile. He's bigger than any hoplias I have! I actually have them both in there but Sausage( the purp wolf) kept eating literally everything I put in the tank. Vita-chem soaked tilapia, shrimp, cichlid gold pellets, convict cichlids, earthworms, etc. I spoil all my fish but this guy partakes in every food I throw in there!

So here's before I overhauled the tank, so it's a bit older but he's closer to 13 inches than 15in, I forgot my tank is 18 inches wide. Needless to say he's going into a 180 gallon this February (tax return baby!).

Also noticed he has a very fine bright white trim on his tail fin. It's very pretty under the sunset lights.

Some scraps with the hoplias, nothing ever serious since I have plenty of caves and broken sight lines in a 85 gal.

But as always it seems like bichirs can cuddle with just about any fish 😂. Or get their ass whooped trying, the oddest fish ever.
