The petshop owner said its a tiger oscar.

I got him 3", he/she is almost 5" almost 2 months in my care. I dont know its age though.
The container is almost 40 gallons but only temporary and will be moved when he/she gets bigger.

And is he/she in good shape?
I feed pellets 2-3x day and 50% water change a week

Seen wild types with this kid of pattern. Since ur lfs owner said tiger then it’s color aren’t coming thru. Especially in a whited our tank like that.

The names tiger, red, etc etc are made up trade names for different color strains, they are not separate species.
All just color morphs of the same species Astronotus ocellatus.
There are other species, A crassipinnus is a recognized separate species, but to see if yours was actually one of those, much closer, tighter, photos would be needed, and/or known catch location points.
An actual separate species would "probably" not be found in a LFS but would come from a specialty importer, or breeder, like Jeff Rapps
