He doesnt look so much like the "common" pleco.. he has pink and red markings on his fins.. Also he isnt very dark most of the time..

looks like a sailfin ala petsmart special. Mine is a cool fish with a great personality

He is just starting to come out of his shell and have his personality :)

My old one was a mean little bugger and would be out and about all day trying to steal food an such, he was gold and had spots with stripes and just looked all around weird.

But man was he MEAN

many of the hypostomus species are so similar they are practically indistinguishable, especially as juveniles. h. punctatus is as good a guess as any i think.

many of the "common" plecos are actually not so common at all, and in my opinion usually turn out to be the most active and fun to watch in an aquarium. its a pretty cool pick up whatever it is, enjoy.

I am not sure what he said. He is very docile. Doesnt even notice my Bichir (but as a precaution I may be giving him up to a friend who is just starting her tank)
He is very good at getting the food that gets stuck down in my tall fake grass lol he does each strand one by one.
He has grown quite a bit since I got him. The weird thing is the red/pink on the tips of his fins, I have never seen one like that before. Its kind of "bleeding" towards his body.

For a reference as to how big he has gotten in about 2 weeks, here is him the day I got him. Same rock as the picture above.

I think he/she is going to be large lol

It looks exactly like my "sailfin" I got from petsmart (who knows what he is). Mine has the yellows and pinks especially after getting some bloodworms in his zuchinni. Thos things grow fast mine has gone from 2" to 6" in 6 weeks. My biggest tank is a 55 so I need to upgrade this summer or rehome him. My daughter named him grumpy and really loves to watch him so I probably will need to look for a 120 gallon. They are really fun fish whatever they are.
