I am thinking of planting my 36 gallon bowfront. It still has the stock 17w t8 bulb on it. Should I change the bulb? What should I change it to? Wondering what people recommend. LFS tried to push me to a whole new fixture. Any ideas are appreciated

Well obviously you cant do anything with the fixture you have in place, its a T8. Meaning you cant change the bulb other than color 5500K 6500K 10K but they'll still be 17w.
Now if you upgrade the fixture you can upgrade to a T5NO (or HE) if you want to stay in the "low tech" medium lighting.
