in my 29 gallon i noticed this afternoon in my 29 gallon only in the parts of the tank under a 50 watt halide 6700k light. there is gray all around it. like a yellowish gray. it doesn't look like waste, but is there anything bad about it. it appeared since I left for work today. i think it's a form of algae, but I don't know if this is good or not? it is only under a strong light. not on the unlit side of the tank.

sounds like you just got your first diatoms

is that good or bad? i never read anything about it.

it's neither.. just something that happens

it tends to go away on it's own or you may need to add an extra powerhead

well i was only running one at the time it showed up. now i'm running two and added the 18pounds of live rock i was curing. this help with it? i'm up to 26 pounds of live rock in the tank. i am adding another 8 when it's done curing.

the rock wont help but the extra powerhead definately will once the tank is cycled it should just go away.. it may linger a while, but i've never had it last more than 6 months
