What looks similar to a RTB?

An odd snake came into one of district stores and the manager had me stop by to check it out (knowing I liked snakes and what not). It came in with their Red Tail Boas, and looks very similar in patterning but there's a few differences between it and the Red Tails that came in and the ones they normally get.

1.) The scales have a light rainbow shine to them, like a Rainbow Boa (not quite as vibrant though).

2.) It was a very salmon-ish color, all over.

3.) The eyes were a black pupil on a solid silver/white iris. All the RTBs I've seen, even with varying colors, have patterning in the eyes. This had none.

4.) It was highly aggressive. Hissing, striking, actively seeking out the closest person and trying to bite.

5.) The structure of the head, the features just seemed a little bit sharper and more distinct. Like the head was more elongated and narrow, rather than that nice rounded snout.


I know this is all very vague, so I'm not looking for real IDs, but just some ideas of snakes that may look similar to a RTB... or if they come in morphs with any of the above colors/features.

Either way, I'm probably buying the snake in the next few days. It just looked really awesome, and I'd hate to miss something that looked as nice as it did.

It's most likely a different looking common boa or a boa morph. There are loads of boa morphs about. Maybe a hypo?
Either way post some pics.

sounds like what some people call pastel or a pastel redtailedboa but this isn't genetic its just a normal boa maybe a little localitty influince there is a small chance it is Hypomelenistic "salmon boa"


but this is with no pic a pic would be worth a thousand words but there are no other snakes that look like boa constrictors other then boa constrictors next closest might be Dumereils

^Definitely not a dumerils.... lol... Probably some locality, maybe a hog island boa, its hard to tell without pics, get some tomorrow. Also if you don't buy it I would be glad to take it off the petstores hands >.>hehe

This just reminded me about my Lucy pastel boa's eyes and coloration which are somewhat similar to what the OP is describing.

Also, some lines of pastel have been proven genetic while some are mere coloration flukes.

Here is the first photo, poor quality due to camera phone. He looks much more colorful under natural light, so I'll have some of those photos taken soon. He looks a little washed out here. So, I'll have better ones up after he's settled in a little bit and stop trying to bite the hell out of everything that moves.

I don't know if he's anything special but the owner of the reptile store across from the store I picked him up from was very interested in getting him. He was trying to "convince" the manager that holding the snake for another manager within the company was illegal, haha.

In any event, the manager was happy to see the snake go... it was attacking the other Red Tails apparently. Anyway, I don't know if he's something special or not (probably not, the breeders are usually very good about picking out anything worthwhile and just shipping us the leftovers), but I love his color and I absolutely love his eyes. So, I'm very happy to have him one way or another... his name is Sierra.

Looks like either a hypomelanistic Nicaraguan boa or some form of pastel. Either way, excellent pick-up!
