I think there is a mutual agreement on 2 species. The convict and the midas. Some say that is all it consists of, but I don't think that is the case. Who is the mysterious #3? You might not believe me, but some things just shout 'SEVERUM' to me. Not sure just a wild guess.

I believe the people assumed that Gold Severum was a true gold severum that we usually seen in the LFS. Gold Severum wasn't actually a severum but a hybrid cichlid known as Jing Gang Ying Wu.

Anyways, we believe that Blood parrot was hybrids between Red Devil and Synspilum, through there are few rumors that some blood parrot has Midas blood in them.

Its at least a double x times x times x etc cross that includes both Midas and Red Devil as well as Synspillum and particularly Red Shock S. The Jin Gang Ying Wu is I believe a cross between a KOKy midas x RD and a good shape Red Shock, which is then bred back to red fish and possibly red fish (red shock) hybrid with devil or midas. These were all along graded and culled for symmetry and compact body. So its complicated to say the least.

There is definateley no convict in blood parrots, but many are very weak genetically, so, in order to strengthen genetics, parrots are crossed out with a different species. Doing this with a pink convict (which is by far the easiest) yields those uncoloured parrots you find at petsmart and jellybean parrots which are dyed (yuck). In general, most blood parrots today are bred from crosses out of the species with another red fish (red shock, devilxmidas, or its own ancestors) or very different parrot.

At least thats what I've picked up along the line, they have fish breeding colleges in asia for this kind of thing
