I always hear everyone recommending these filters left and right and I have never seen one running on a tank. I am just curious as I am about to order one for my 55 as everyone recommended it. I did not mean any negative connotation in my thread title I am just curious.
Also how much clearance is necessary behind the tank to have one?

Thanks MFKers :headbang2

4 inches i think. Not at home to check mine heh

I threw mine out, it sucked.

Wouldn't stop making noise.
Really ? I am getting one so I need to know these things as its going on my living room tank

I've got 8 altogether and they're all plenty quiet. If the lid's not seated right it'll vibrate sometimes but that's just a matter of making sure I put the lids on right when I service them. I LOVE these filters-extremely powerful. The 500 gph on a 55 g would give you 10 times the turnover so just make sure you're not putting Bettas or Angelfish in there :-)
I just measured and you need 4" of clearence behind the tank.

All HOB filters make noise...it's just the inherent design flaw of having mechanics mingling with substrate, crap, and other fun build-up. ACs are nice filters, well made and have a fairly small footprint.

I personally like Marineland filters, but ACs are much more accommodating to the "save some bucks and build your own" filters.

They hold less than 1 liter of media and have about 450-500 GPH. Not good.

I personally would not reccomend them.

Even if I already have a eheim 2215 with plenty of substrat pro ? I need it mainly for the mechanical and turnover
