All juvenile parrots have that coloring. It will "peel" to its mature coloring (orange or yellow or reddish or pink) when it gets to be about 3" in size.

But you still picked a good one! It has a nice head shape and the mouth looks pretty much normal. :-)

thanks for all the replies!
well i was wondering more about his body(head) shape, why is it so normal looking?
also what does unpeeled mean?

i believe these are called red parrots ill post a pic of what mine looks like after peeling

for me i think its a flowerhorn X bloodparrot cross..yes it would peel until such time, will turn to yellow/orange...goodluck!

it does have a odd shape head for a parrot fish but it was bought from petsmart what do you expect :grinno:

i think its a parrot xs flowerhorn similiar to mine (check out the mouth, its not triangle or heart shape). BTW any one know how to breed them? they picking pairs and the first spawn did not success. Any recommendation on breeding them will be highly appreciate.

these people don't know what they are talking about.. Its a regular unpeeled blood parrot. Unpeeled means that it hasn't yet lost its "baby colors" which is a common thing with most cichlids. By the time it hits 3-4" it should look like a normal blood parrot.
