what media in ray tank filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just really wanted to get a broad view of what filter/filter media types are working for people, i know there is alot of crazy stuff out there, really just want to see what peoples different opinions are on filtering

cant go wrong with a good can loaded for mechanical and biological filtration. i used a rena xp3 and 2 AC110's on my 75g ray growout

seemed to do my rays pretty well before they died thanks to me not Q'ing a clown knife at the time, and them getting nasty fungus:cry:

hmmm my sump is all submerged media i have sea chem matrix, eheim substrate pro, lava rock, bio max, and god only knows what else... ill be adding other media real soon... gonna bring the level up to about 30L of bio plus im loonking into a bio tower(have about 50 gallons of bio balls and a fluidized filter....

i do not have stingrays but i would say a pre filter media that gets changed often then as man y different medias with large surface areas as possible mixed up to allow the most diverse population of bacteria to develop so it is better able to adapt to changes and avoid a spike.

They are all pretty similar from what I gather.. much of the super-porous media will get clogged or not even utilized. I Just maximize my canisters with a prefilter and a mixture of different brands of bio-media. Just make sure they don't get too nasty.

ok well thats cool, i have been thinking about making my own bio filter for a while,(probably around 10-15g in size) im just not sure when im going to get around to doing it, heh
