What media shall I put in my RENA XP3 Filstar

Can any recommend what I should put in my canister?

I have 3 containers that can be halved again if needs be.

At the moment I have nothing, I have another one that does have all the old stuff from my Fluval 305 in it.

The tank is a 180g and current stocking is:

Salvini 5"
2x JD 5"
Oscar 7"
2x Pleco 8"
4x FM 3"
Sev 7"
Convict 3"
Female Jag 7-8"

There will be more.

Thanks for any info.

Interested in doing this as cheap as possible so cheaper alternatives if possible welcome :)
 
My Rena xP3 filstar has Ceramic ring's, the wool that comes with it, filter wool and 20ppi foam. I have a xP4 that has all those thing's except i have Rena Crystal. Hope this helped.
 
YOU HAVE AN XP3 ?!?!? MAN BUY A XP4. XP3 is for tanks 120g and under@! Woah, and those fish are huge so get an Xp4 or 2 XP3's... I have a Xp4 in my 125g just so it cleaner.
 
thanks for your 1st post but your second makes no sense as I already mentioned I have 2x xp3's oh and most of those fish are not huge not even full size yet...
 
In both of my xp3's I use foam pads, seachem's Matrix, activated carbon, bio balls, and filter floss on the top level.

Don't you mean the bottom since the water rises up the stack?

I would use the stock sponges on the bottom - coarse, fine then instead of biomax I would use Eheim Ehfisubstrat Pro.
 
Ok thanks chaps I'll go for sponges, substrate pro and filter floss, in that order :)
