im building a diy overhead filter. i have got the container but since its my first diy filter im not sure what media is required

the filter will be for my shrimp breeding tank. the intake will have a sponge on it to stop large debris and shrimp getting sucked in.

so far for in the filter i have ordered some cermaic media, zeolite and crabon, some sponge. im also going to order some wool type mdeia.

my questions are have i got every type of media i need?

what can i put my zeolite and carbon in? i have bought it loose and cant find anything to put it in. only thing i can think of is a small plstaic tub with holes drilled in the top and bottom and put the carbon in the middle.

You don't really need zeolite or carbon unless you have an odour/colour or an ammonia spike. Just fill the container with ceramic media. I would suggust SeaChem's Matrix :). The sponge is fine in trapping debris but if you don't mind, replace it with a filter pad. It traps dirt much better than the sponge.

The only time I use sponge is either in a sponge filter or canister. I think a sponge filter should be enough for a shrimp tank unless you are gonna have like a huge community of them.
