ok i was looking at my tank it somehow got pretty cloudy. so i was looking around and my thermonitor had a hole in it...all those metal balls fell out and went into my tank. what type of metal would it be? and anyone know of better thermonitors?

naa lead ain't magentic
correct the only metals that are ferromagnetic (react with a mgnetic feild at a visible level) are Iron, Nickel, and Cobalt.

just get all the metal balls out and you will be fine.

The cloudy water would not be due to the metal balls in the thermometer. Regardless if they are steel or lead.... the steel will corrode, but would not be in high enough concentrations to harm the fish.... the lead will probably form a thin layer of lead carbonate that is pretty much insoluble..... so I don't think you have to worry.
