I have a 180g (6x2x2) with various cichlids and an Ornate and Senegalus of 6".

I am looking for one or two new bichirs.

I have a choice of:

Congi at 6-7", lapradei at 9-11", weeksii at 5.5-6", endli endli at 6" and palmas buettikoferi at between 4-6".

I am looking for a fairly active bichir predominately, as I don't like buying fish particularly when they aren't cheap, for them to hide up most of the time. I have plenty of hiding places and my other two bichirs are v. active, especially the senegalus.

Tank is filtered with two FX5's and gets 50% waterchanges weekly.

So what would you pick?

Hey, its's "gasmask" from the other forum.

None of those are that active tbh.
My Congis (I have 7) are probably the most active of my lower jaws.
But remember these get big. Mine can be very brutal at times, so may well have problems with the sen.
The same could be said for Laps and Endlis too.

Could you move the Senegal to a different tank? If you can then I say get all of them!

All my polypterus sp. koliba are very active and the big female is the most active of all my bichirs. My endlis and congis are active as well but my weeksii seems to be only active during feeding time and same goes with the beutt and lap. They hide a lot. However not all bichirs acts the same as each have individual activity level not just within species but individual bichirs.

Buettikoferi and Weeksii are the most active amongst the list you have

Ah some conflicting info already, one keeper's Weeksii is active, one isn't

I am so confused as I always wanted an Endli endli, and now I am tempted by the Lapradei as think the green is stunning on them. I really like the Congi too, but they are expensive and do get huge. I think I am right in thinking they take a long time to get this big though?

Unfortunately I can't move the Senegalus :( But he is very active so I think he'd keep out of trouble if needed.

Hmm just checked and looks like the Lap has gone. Won't be posting on the other forum about them again then as obviously someone snapped them up! Oh well.

It's like King-eL said, activeness can be an individual thing.
I have 2 Weeksii. 1 I hardly ever see, the other is one of my most active fish right now.
I have active Endlis, and Endli that sit there all day.

It could go either way.

Yeah, same with cichlids - some individuals of a species are aggressive from some people's experience, others more peaceful.

The lap hasn't been sold, I was looking at p. bichir lapradei by accident. What's the diff between that fish and p. lapradei?
