What on earth is this....Help!!

It not easy to see exactly what's going on there. If it's a prolapsed rectum, somtimes they go back somtimes they don't. Do not feed this fish. Use 1 tablespoon of epsom salt per gallon of water. Fill an appropreate sized container with tank water add epsom salt and place fish in container for 15 to 20 mins. Watch the fish wil in the bath and remove at the first sign of being overly stressed. after the bath return to the main tank. Do this every 24 hours. It may or may not work. Please report and changes or if this seems to be somthing other than a prolaps. HTH.

I took the comp out of my main tank and put him in my sons 12g tank and what ever this problem was seems to have retracted, now there is a very slight tube hanging out which I have seen before on other fish so am not overly concerned.

I did notice something rather odd that may have caused this. I had a false log in there that used to float so I put a hole it the log so water could get in to it and it would sink - this is the log the comp used to sit in and spend a lot of his time. When it come to getting the fish/log out and I emptied the water out of it, the water smelt really bad. I would hazard a guess that no water flow and waste build up from the fish sitting in the log may have made this water very polluted and potentially caused the issue (maybe an infection of some sort) to the fish?

Do you think this is what possibly caused the problem?
