Just curious about it. How do everyone out there treat your sick dats? let say your dats got ick, fungus, stress, etc....

what kind of medication you useing, or how do you normally treat your dats?

i use melafix for every thing primafix for fungus

not had ick for years as i us a UV

come to think of it i have not had to trest my tank for about 2 years when i had the uaru.f :D

Recently when my Dats were scratching a little more than the usual I first tried Melafix as there was no signs of ick. Then tried Pimafix.

Then did a full course of Sterazin plus Salt with a temp of 85. All scratching has now stopped.

Never like adding treatments but feel Melafex, Pimafix and Sterazin all safe to use with Dats as none of my Dats showed any signs of distress with the addition of these treatments.

Now using Salt with weekly water changes and temp remains 83 - 85

I give them a good scrub with a BBQ brush once a month, and mine do great a lot safer then chemicals...

A couple of times when I picked up some dats at the lfs, they had cloudy eyes and I used salt then.

If it's a serious infection, I use Melafix and Pimafix.

kenyan

do you remember when you pick up my NGT and there are some white spot on top of the spike? i thought that come from the NGT hitting the wood but it's not. what you think it look like.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. It actually cleared up in a few days and looked like re-growth so it could be from rubbing on something.

I just took these pics 5 minutes ago, and you can see the dorsal rays are completely re-grown.

Yeah, I'm very pleased with this NGT...one of my favorites. :D

The only thing I did, as a preventative measure, was add some aquarium salt. I just use that as a default when I'm intoducing new fish now.

the skin on the spines is very very thin, so if it bumps something or rubs something fairly hard it will actually remove the skin, so the white is actually bone...

that has happened to my AT and it grew back in a couple of days.
