Looking to add a pleco to my 55g african cichlid tank. Not sure which Pleco to get. I'm looking for something that is efficient & doesn't make a ton of waste. At the same time, I want something that would be able to withstand the pH.

All suggestions are welcome!

To be honest no pleco should be in that high of PH

With that said, I've seen commons, sailfins and rhinos in AC tanks.

The only way to avoid waste is a small pleco but I don't think they would last.

Why would your pleco have to be in high pH because it's in a cichlid tank? Maybe you need to do water changes more often??

Personally, I have a 75gal cichlid tank with the following plecos: 3 Royals, 5 ABN, 1 Chocolate & 1 Scarlet and I don't have any problems at all. I also have 8 loach/botia of various types and a catfish and everyone gets along just fine. I usually do a 50% water change at least once a week but most weeks I do this twice. All of the above pretty much leave the plecos alone so it shouldn't be an issue. Every once in a while you'll see a nipped fin but nothing too common or serious.

there are many tank generations BNs that have been bred so many generations in all kinds of tanks withstand variety of water conditions. BN's are so hardy right now I would say just stick with them instead of risking pretty coin for other fancy plecos out there.

I would even suggest doing synos as they're built to withstand and give sass back to the african cichlids.
