I saw an interesting Pleco at the LFS today. It was just about 4-5 inches in length, what was interesting about the Pleco was its body shape and colour. The Pleco was almost like a paper at the bottom of the tank, it was just flat shaped..with a nice white and interestingly coloured patterns. What Pleco is this looking flat at the bottom? How big does it grow to?

Did it look like this?

Nice Pleco but no it didn't, it was even flatter...you know that marine fish, flat body moving at the bottom and camouflaging with the sand? Yes the body was that flat...I don't think I have ever seen this Pleco before.

No, I don't think so..besides the Hillstream Loach was already there in another tank near it. This is a Pleco, even the shopkeeper said so..but he wasn't sure of the name...he thought maybe it was a Diamond Pleco but of course it isn't.

Just flat, and it's mouth or face is similar to a Bushy Nose Pleco.

Hill Stream Loach, picture below...no, not the one I saw. Damn I wish my digicam is with me now.

Sometimes called a "Chinese Butterfly", I don't know the scientific name and it's not a pleco. A type of loach maybe?

I found the name Beaufortia kweichowensis, Chinese Hillstream loach, Hong kong butterfly, etc....

Oops! Sorry! I misunderstood, I thought you were looking for that Butterfly.

Don't mind me....I'm simple!:)

The only flat "plecos" commonly seen are whiptails, and farlowellas (which aren't very flat), and hillstream loaches (which often parade as plecos). I'm going to assume that it isn't a farlowella. Both hillstreams and whiptails have numerous color patterns, and whiptails can take many different shapes.
