I got a 55 gallon tank that currently houses a pike cichlid, a black ghost knife, 5 gouramis, and 2 4-line pictus cats. I'm thinking about adding a pleco eventually, maybe in a months time. The tank has one cave in the center thats pretty much used by the pike and the bgk but theyre not always in there. I dont have alot of current in the tank, just an overflow filter. I would prefer to add a pleco that primarily has a carnivore type diet because I dont want to have to fish out pieces of cucumber or lettuce when then get all gross. Plus I feed alot of sinking meaty type pellets. Also I would like a species that doesnt get bigger than say 10 in or at max a foot. But hopefully by that time I would have upgraded :). Any suggestions?

well if u feel like spendin 30-40 bucks u could get a green or blue phantom pleco they stay a little under 10 in..
or u could always get some bristle nose, they get 6-8 inch

Yea I've had bristlenose before, theyre not bad. Are bristlenose ok with their own species, I've read of other plecos being very aggresive to their own species.

Vampire pleco's are cool. They get almost 10, and eat very meaty. And don't quote me but Columbian Zebra pleco's stay around the same and also carnivours. My Blue Phantom doesn't eat much to begin with so I can't tell you what he really eats.

I did some research on those phantoms and they look quite difficult to keep and have some strick water and diet requirements so I dont think I'll go with that but I'll look into the vamps and zebras.

I may be off too but my thinking was they only max out around 4-5 inches

Get an L-114 leopard cactus pleco. They get a little over 10 inches but are carvivores. They are finally available after at a couple of years of them being difficult to obtain. Nicely colored plec.!
