So my little 55g tank is going to be empty and i was wondering does anyone have any ideas of what fish to keep in there that is pretty hard to get and looks nice. but sorta of a community build of them or so. i got some ideas but i wanna hear some from everyone else please. It has to be able to live in there for a while not just as a grow out tank like i did for some of my pbass and datnoids i had

you could go
african oddball, senegal bichir, butterfly fish, leopard ctenopoma, some congo tetras.
worldwide oddball tank with cool fish from asia and south america too.

south american biotope tank, plants lots of cool active fish and catfish. could have some smaller cichlids or geo's in there and maybe an angel or two

There are a good number of cool brackish water fish that stay medium size. I haven't done a brackish tank, but archers and four-eyes are two of my favorites.

The height of a 55 would allow you to do a lowered water level.

For a 55 you really shouldn't have anything that gets over 5".
If you want an African
Alcolapia alcalicus is very active, colorful, needs warm temps, and breeds readily

if you'd prefer new world
Cryptoheros nanoluteus stays around 5", nice color, and peaceful

a few discus? they always catch the eye

Did you make a decision? im curious

oh well i wanted like something active like some larger barbs. i kinda wanted some mahseers for a while until they get to big but i really liked those since i seen some on mfk

I had a spare 60 gal a while ago. Made it a planted aquarium, also with more uncommon fish. Had an archer, african knife, pictus, but my best is my nandus nandus indian leaf fish. Pearch like, huge mouth, verra cool to watch hunt, not aggresive and verra pretty. Also a verra responsive fish. A lot of personality
