you dont need ro water unless you plan to breed i think you ment nitrates because you want 0 nitrites and a cycled filter will do that lots of water changes and 1 discus per 10 gal to keep nitrates low 82 deg to 84deg stable water the type of filter doesent really matter anything from sponge filters to sumps work fine just as long as its enough for the size tank
when i first started with discus i didnt really have good luck at all. it was until i got some chemi pure elite and dual heaters in my 55 gallon tank when my luck started to change. i found the dual heater thing is the best way to go! i have 2 marineland stealth heaters (the black ones) in my tanks and they are AMAZING!!!!!!
thank you i have 5 baby ones in a 56 gallon with two aquaclear 70 and one heater ill use dual heater and im planning on getting three more discus should i use airstone?
if you have plants you shouldn't use an airstone. and you don't need one unless the fish are breathing heavy. its not the bubbles that oxygenate the water, its the movement of water at the surface that the bubbles create that oxygenate the water. instead of having an airstone powered by a noisy airpump i have a small powerhead pointing towards the surface to agitate the water. its alot quieter.
A lot of PRIME for water conditioner.
A group of minimum 6, in a (preferably) 75gal tank.
80% water changes daily for the grow out period, especially if you feed them a lot of the "GOOD" stuff.
Once they pair up 50gal should be good/pair.
Filtration? Breeders usually use sponge filters run by an industrial size air blower. That markets for about 400$ and usually can run 80+ setups on that. Sponge filters are also recommended due to the high amount of nutrients, especially in the grow out stage, and any canister filter would just become a nitrate factory.
