Hi does anyone know what South American cichlid that I can breed produces a lil bit of cash? I have a 55 gallon Amazon Biotope and I was looking into Heros Notatus I already have a male from the wet spot. But are there any cichlids that produce more young then a Severum and the young being worth a lot. Cause I'm going into college soon and was thinking I could make a lil cash from my aquarium hobby.

With a lot of species i find you are doing well already if you are even able to break even in the hobby. I spend so much myself on food/hyrdo/water/various supplies. But if you can do it... you go girl.

With cichlids its kind of hard because there are some many species, one good spawn can flood the market; so really multiple species are needed but the above species are some of the best. Also angels are fairly marketable IMO

Thanks guys, it's pretty hard to choose. In my tank I already have a male (Heros Notatus) Spotted Severum wild caught. Do you think if I found a female is the likelihood of them pairing pretty high? Or do you think I should find a pair of discus, Angels, or etc to breed? At my job we sell tons of angels and other local places sell discus. Not sure if a rare fish like Heros Notatus will sell like angels or discus. I also have 1 male tiger silver dollar with 4 females. Are those hard to breed in a tank or are they easy?

In regards to severums, had an old coworker that bred them. Had a very hard time selling them off. Kept having to travel further to try and sell them in bulk to stores. Just didn't seem to be the market for them.
