i was told it was ok to but live sand in a freshwater tank is that true? i wanted to get some real advice please help me out.

Kind of pointless to use live sand because the bacteria in it is saltwater bacteria. You can buy some regular sand for about half the price and put that in your tank with no difference.

regular sand would be a beter choice and as stated CHEAPER

well at the store i go too the freshwater sand is 24$ PER 20 LBS and the live is 18$ per 20 lbs so?

You can use pool filter sand ($10-12 bag) or play sand ($3 bag). Play sand must be washed first, but pool filter sand can go straight in.

just goto walmart, 50 lbs bag of pool filter sand for $8 or something, just rinse well, I've used it in several tanks with no problems

if you are paying 24$ a bag for special freshwater sand and its not real black sand.... then your lfs LOVES you....

go to a pool supply store and ask them for a bog of sand... they will have a few different "grades" (how coarse it is aka the size/shape of the grains of sand)..
