I love look of sand, but have stayed with gravel because I think sand would be hard to clean. Plus I want a really clear tank to maximize the beauty of it. I have 2 jack dempseys, a pleco, a dragon fish(violet goby). I want a sand that is relatively coarse and has heavier grains that will quickly settle and fall back to the floor when stirred up.

pool filter sand from Lowe's or home depot......it works well

Lesley pool filter sand. It's heavy enough to syphon to clean the crap from the bottom. Only $6.00 a 50lbs bag.
