whats best? reg lights in tank and reg lighting in my basement. it has a sb600 speed light.... w circular lens...

it takes better shot when the shutter speed is fast but i cant keep it fast w out using the flash...:screwy:

Make sure you have ample lighting.
Go to "aperature" mode on the Nikon. (A, setting on dial)
Bump your ISO to around 600-800.

Here's a small tutorial I made for taking fish tank shots.

Nice post iamzrad.

Another thing to consider when using a remote flash above the tank is that it creates a tight cone of light. You can diffuse the light with a styrofoam box to get shots of bigger fish.

:ROFL:when i saw the title of your thread i thought you were asking how to use w d40 the degreaser

my prefered setup is-

overhead flash mounted on the body, instead of on the tank (i follow my fish for shots).

ISO 200
Aperture F9-F18
Micro or Short zooms (F2.8 or better)

what kind of lens are you useing?
