I just got a 160 gallon tank i wanted for saltwater. Is there any type of shark i can have in this size tank? i didnt know if they grew to the size of the tank like other fish or if they will get to big for it. and at what point would they be to big for it? if its like a year or two i could upgrade tanks at that time

no fish grows to the size of its tank..this is a myth ..just a little fyi hopefully someone with saltwater knowledge can help you out.

Smallest species would be banded sharks but that's still to small IMO. You would want 200+ gallons for banded sharks the more room the better. I've read in articles that have said 180 at least for them but that would be a bare minmum of some pieces of live rock and the shark. I wouldn't consider that a well living for a banded shark because the caring aspect of banded sharks usually requires a very well experienced saltwater hobbyist. I never owned one and from hearing people that have owned one they can be quite difficult. More people on this forum have had or learned more about them and could tell you the expectancy of having the size of the shark and when you need to upgrade tank sizes. I'm not very experienced in the SW hobby yet but this could turn out to be a very educational thread. :)

you could probably get away with a coral catshark for a couple years but i would upgrade to 180 or 200

Bamboo shark, banded shark. They're pretty small but they aren't gonna give you what you're looking for. They patrol the bottom of the tank. The tank also must have rounded corners. Sharks are more successfully kept in round tanks. There's really not many sharks you can keep in the home that are "tough guy" sharks. If you have a spare 50k or so you can have an acrylic tank made big enough for a small black tip shark or something. That's about it tho.
