Hey guys, so my new (actually I got it 7 months ago) 120g tank should be up and running soon, at least hopefully. After juggling around some stocking ideas, I think I have it pretty narrowed down. I'm going to make it a polypterus tank, (obviously, who wouldn't?) probably all upper jaws, just to keep my del safe. The first inhabitants in the tank will be my delhezi and crenicichla sp. venezuela. After that, I've got some stuff in mind, but I don't know what species and how many of each I should get. Here are the species of polypterus I have in mind, may add some other species of fish also:
Ornatipinnis
Delhezi
Weeksii
Teugelsi
Senegalus
What would you guys recommend? The fish will more than likely either be from toyin or some other vendor, and I will probably have a couple hundred bucks to kill...
Any other tankmate suggestions are cool too...

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out any of the lower jaw species. Valid concern with the size differential, however if you grow out your del first and then start on growing out the lower jaws you may be able to get to enjoy a greater variety.

My del is already pretty much grown out, about 11-12".
I don't know, I'm just trying to be as safe as possible.

Depending on the size diff it can be a gamble mixing different types. A full grown ornate can be 20 to 24", larger than some of the lower jaws.

I would think a nice mix would be. (Mainly due to what is available up here)
  • Delhezi
  • Weeksii
  • Ornate
  • Endi
  • Lap
Enjoy what you decide upon and be sure to post pics to share.

That might be nice. I'll definitely have to think about it. Thanks!
Any other suggestions?

So, I read my first post, and it seemed to kind of beat around the bush. Basically, I just need stocking advice, sorry if anyone couldn't tell that...

Sorry for the triple post, just another quick question to add:
How long could an ansorgii last in a 120g?

What are the dimensions of your 120g?

It's a standard 120g, 4' x 2' x 2'.

ohhh I thought the standard was 5'x18"x24", cool then you have a good footprint to work with.

It really depends on how packed you are comfortable with.

With a small tank like that, a mix of the smaller upper jaws is best (delhezi, sens, all types of palmas, moke) is best, but you could squeeze in a few bigger ones if you wanted :)
