I have an empty 55 I decided I am going to put up this comming week, but I am not sure what I should put in it.

I am trying to pick between the following:

-2.5 inch unid serra (piranha) currently in a 20 gallon

-3.5 inch flower horn (probably a ZZ, not sure male or female) currently in my girl friend's 55 g

-Attempt my first planted tank (cost might be an issue, plus I dont have experience)

-Get two little ranchus that are on sale at my LFS

Any input would be great, so hard to decide!!!!

Saltwater!! :headbang2

lol saltwater would be too expensive!

im having the same problem i have an empty 55 , imthinking of going all small community fish such as tetras, rasboras barbs and some clown loaches

get a dozen new bichir and use it to quarantine them.

plant it... homedepot has everything you need for less than $60...
-diamond plate shoplight ($25)
-upgrade the bulbs ($10)
-bag of pea gravel ($5)
-sheet of egg crate for tops.. the white is fine the silver is better ($8)
-sheet of acrylic to protect the bulbs ($6)

then whatever youve got for a filter
no need to jump right into fancy co2 systems and $500 lights...

some hair grass, whisteria, hornwort, maybe some sort of sword and some javamoss...

throw in a few pieces of driftwood.. maybe a smaller fancy pleco... congo tetras (top and middle of the tank.. 4").. rummynose tetras (middle of the tank.. 1.5").. maybe even a few guppies/mollys/plattys for constant breeding action (if you leave them in the tank almost all the fry will get picked off).. clown loaches (bottom and up and down the sides.. they get get big but are very slow growers.. theres also ALWAYS someone willing to pay for them once they are too big... they will also put a serious dent in your snail population which ALWAYS happens wit plants).. maybe some corys since they will play with the CLs.. thats $100+ worth of fish but you dont have to get them all right at the same time..
Qtanks are a must in general... but when monsters die/kill eachother its sort of a "well yeah that happens" thing... but when community fish all die due to some random funk it really ticks you off

just my 2 bits.. im thinking of giving my gf a bigger tank to plant.. it is VERY relaxing and there always action..

Hmm chester makes planting the tank sound very tempting. If i decide to do that, I might send you a PM if thats okay with you.
