orient ohio
I dug this 12 years ago in my field. It was a swampy area so I dug this pond for the water to go into. It worked as the swampy area is dry now. I would like to improve the pond and maybe add Koi. The deep end is about 9 feet. Or at least it was when I dug it. That was the max depth of the excavator I used.

It tapers off at the shallow end. Basically so you could get out if you feel in.

It is about 50 x 20. I plan on cleaning out the brush and leaving the weeping willow. Would an aerator powered by a wind mill help clear it up? Solar powered filter? Just wanted to see what others that know more than me would do with it.

looks nice if you could manage the logistics I could be a nice pond. You could even put natives in there if your state allows it, would make a good little fishing pond.

It stay pretty full year round. I think I hit a spring digging it. Water started coming in from the ground. It was the middle of July. The bottom filled up and I got the bulldozer stuck. Had to have a big tow truck pull it out. I am probably the only guy to get a bulldozer stuck.

ummm thats a big pond. 50x20 feet!?! my math may be wrong, but using an average of 7 feet deep i got almost 52,500 gallons forget pond thats a small lake! lol

Well I was curious what was living in the pond. So I put a minnow trap out. Have caught a few minnows. Not sure what they are. And also a bunch of Tadpoles. Big tadpoles. I think I will try fishing out there a couple times just to see if I catch anything. I know a neighborhood kid dumped some fish in there from a local reservoir a few years back. And I put some feeder goldfish in there a couple years ago from my garden pond. A couple years later I saw a 2 foot goldfish in there. But I found him dead later that year. So I don't know what is in there now.

Maybe I should put something in there that will eat the tadpoles.

I have been doing a little fishing in the pond and caught a 12 inch goldfish and an 8 inch Koi. I guess my feeder goldfish I dumped in there years ago have grown and reproduced.

Catching a 12 inch goldfish must be an interesting experience....ha I would think that was really strange after fighting a fish in ohio, and then pulling out a goldie. :D

It would work for koi...I think they would probably avoid the shallows, and obviously they arent getting too predated, otherwise you wouldnt be catching them.
