What should I do with this?

A mate of mine was in a shop today and overheard a conversation about a fish tank the long and the short of it is he phoned me and I bought a 2ft cube with gravel for £20 . But what should I put in it I was thinking of digging out the co2 kit I have hidden some where and the lights and doing a planted tank again or just us it to grow out. Come on give me some ideas.

OK first - you need to sterilize the hell out of that unless you plan on it being a death tank. Make sure you remove that substrate too. IMO even if it was a deal, used substrate is a disaster waiting to happen. You have no idea what was housed in that tank before, if there were any infections or disease outbreaks, what chemicals were used, etc. etc. If I were you, I'd toss it first, then work on a total cleaning of that tank. And before you can even decide what to put into it you need to make sure there are no leaks or worn silicone.

No you have misunderstood me there, I know its water tight i filled it up round the blokes house it very thick glass the same as my 6 ft I lifted it into the car and nearly broke my back. As for cleaning it that’s not an issue either I always wash them out with babied sterilisation fluid(Milton) the question is what do I put in it?????????????? If I was going to use it as a planed tank I would scrap every thing except the tank.


I just laughed at the price it was sold to me as you can have the lot for £20 when I said what the lot the bloke said I could have the gravel (thanks)


To be honest I haven’t really got the room for it in the fish room but a 2 foot cube is kinda cool.

Why sterilize it? All my tanks have been used apart from 1, and I've just rinsed them, filled them up and away you go. Never had a problem. Tank doesn't look dirty at all.

Cool tank stotty, it would make a cool growout. Make it a semi planted growout.

When I come back to England I'm gonna need a temp tank that big fish can turn around in until I buy another big one, as I am not transporting my main tank back, only my growout.

If you see another 2 foot cube for cheap like that, please buy it and I'll buy it off you as soon as I get to England for twice the price you paid
