with winter on the way and my 17 1/2" longnose out in the kiddie pool. the pool is different from the one in my avatar, its a plastic one that you blow up. and im afraid that if i put a heater in there it will melt the plastic. so do i leave him in the pool or move him back to the 75g.

You could buy or make a heater guard then using a submersible heater just leave unattached -Anne

Go to target.com, they have a 10' diameter frame pool that you could probably heat...melting shouldn't be an issue but it's true you could use a heater guard, something as simple as a piece of pvc with holes drilled, in the current so the warm water spreads.

thanks for the input guys.

Being in Georgia you shouldn't have to heat the pond. The longnose gar ranges from the southern US all the way to Canada. I dont think a Georgia winter will hurt him at all. If anything it will more closely represent his wild habitat.

this is true but i was also thinking about if it snows or something i dont want the pool to freeze with him in it.

Just keep an aerator in the corner to keep an open space in the event of freezing...

good point. this means i need to get an aerator. thanks for the advise.

go with the aerator idea; if you have to move him indoors then you will need to get a bigger tank than a standard 75g. good luck--

How deep is the pond/pool?
