So right now I’m really enjoying my 130 and I was aiming for a Central American tank, it currently has 8 thorichthys meeki, 8 xiphophorus helleri and a pair of Herotilapia multispinosa but they are soon to go. I feel like the tank is missing something. Some of my favourite fish are bottom dwellers but they’re aren’t really any Central American ones that would fit into my tank, should I scrap the CA theme and go for some other fish or should I stick with it. Any stocking suggestions for both ideas would be appreciated as well because I’d like some upper water fish to. Thanks for any help

I would be patient mate, when your meeki are fulll grown they will be a great display on their own.
I've become impatient with fish in the past, moved them on and regretted it.
Your meeki and swords will soon grow and give your tank the impact your looking for.
Pike top live bearers are biotope correct if you want a serfice dweller. They can be difficult to feed and need hard water.

I’ll look into them, would they get on with the sword tails

I believe if you add a P loiselle (or any Parachromis for that matter) first all your sword tails will be eaten, and any other live bearer you add, and at some point the Parachromis may start killing off the meeki, you'd be better off keeping the much less aggressive multispinossa.

and with 8 meeki, adding a Parachromis will severely over stock the tank, even when all the meeki alone get full size, the tank will be quite crowded.

I agree with Duanes. I think you will be surprised how much your current stock will fill out your tank. If you want it to look a little more active I would add more swords.
Less is often more and a little self control can work wonders in the long run. Easier said than done I know.

Okay thanks, will stick with what I have and grow it out, found some cribroheros Robertsoni for sale online so will get them when I can find the right delivery day

I like the multispinosa but they are eating all my plants and leaf litter ruining the tank. How were yours with plants

Yes my multispinnossa were also plant eaters, the only plants mine ignored were anubus, and java fern, and even though they were familiar, occasionally tried to taste them by biting off chunks.
Robertson are quite similar (being a sort of earth eater) to meeki, so you "may" find they see each other as competitors.
My preferred method with Central Americans, is if they look too similar, they may not work in the same tank.

I really like robertson i, but you may have better success with a species with a dissimilar shaped mouth and coloration than the meeki, to avoid aggression.
Say one of the less aggressive Amatitlania
