i am trying to save some money to buy a 150 gallon fish tank for my cichlids that are out growning there tank.

i am not sure whether or not i should buy a used tank which most of the time might come with everything at a cheap and okay price.

Or should i save up and buy a new tank which only comes with the stand, canopy, lids, tank of course at the price of 800-900 (USD)

the pros
....buying a used tank would save me some one on buying other things
...Buying a new tank i would be getting what i am looking for with no cracks or leaks or scratches.
the cons
buying a used tank might have some problems especially since sometime ppl give the wrong measurements of the tank, which waste my time.and pictures dont show every detail of the tank until you see it in person
...buying a new tank measurement should never fail but might want to double check before buying.the bad thing is it does not come with filters, heaters, powerheads, substrate, decorations or any extras which would mean more money for me to spend

THIS IS ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE BUT I NEED EVERYONES ESLE'S OPINION BECAUSE I AM HAVING TROUBLE MAKING UP MY MIND THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE  :D :)   :help2: :help2: :help2: :help2: :help2: :feedback: :feedback: :feedback: :feedback:

I always go for the used tanks, if you go to pick up the tank and it doesn't meet your standards, refuse to buy it. The seller will have to deal with it.
If you are worried about leaking it is very easy to re-caulk [if you do get the caulking gun type, the stuff in the tubes is really hard to get out neatly!]. Personally i don't care if there is minor scratching, it's going to happen anyways, you might as well spend that money on better accessories for your fish.

yep im with alison on this one, save your cash so you can get your self some monster filters,(pro3,,fx5)

used..check craigslist there are usually deals for 150 for like a couple hundred for everything. and a few scratches is nothing to cry about

   thanks guys i used craigslist before and i went to check out this tank the guy told me it was a 150 and i measured it turned out to be a 110!

i almost bought that tank for 400(USD) it came with only one AC110,2 powerheads. plus there was some chipped pieces at the top where the canopy sits on top....but i am still considering a used tank,

My local Petsmart has a 6' long 125 gallon for $309 with glass tops, lighting, and undergravel system (minus the powerhead).

But, a local guy on Craigslist has a brand new 6' long 110 gallon for $200.

Be patient and you'll come accross the right deal. I traded a Craftsman tool chest (I paid $40 for from a neighbor) for a 190. Shop around Craigslist and you'll find what you want for just the right price, usually half off buying new. Good luck.:)

thanks

Bump whats new

Used tank, DIY filter. I have less than $500 in my entire 300g setup (including new pumps for the DIY wet/dry).

Hey rally i am getting my 300 in the next week or so. Mine is better LOL. Still wanna trade lol? O tpic though I say buy used tanks. I always buy used as the already come with filters and aren't in really bad condition. Most of my tanks are used and I have NO problems with them at all. I mean yeah they will have some scratches but who cares your not going to notice them after a month or two and plus when water is added it decreases the scratches visibility. Plus they are MUCH cheaper. A 125 gallon with just the stand canopy and tank will cost me $1800 brand new but I just got one for $250 COMPLETE with lights filtration heaters, 100 LBS of crushed coral, etc.
