HI, I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY ON HERE CAN GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO FEED MY BABY ELECTRIC BLUE JACK DEMPSEYS? THEY ARE ONLY ABOUT 1" IN SIZE, AND I HAVE TRIED TO FEED THEM DIFFERENT KINDS OF FLAKE FOOD AND PALLETS BUT THEY JUST DO NOT SEEM TO EAT ANYTHING.

IF THERE IS SOMEONE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE THEN MYSELF WITH THIS TYPE OF FISH AND YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO SHARE SOME ADVICE ON THEM I WOULD SURE APPRECIATE ANYTHING YOU COULD TELL ME ABOUT THEM.

I PURCHASED THEM FROM A LFS AND THEY TOLD ME TO GIVE THEM FLAKE FOOD AND BEEF HEART BUT THEY DO NOT EAT EITHER OF THEM.. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP..

Maybe post this question in the right section to get answers? My guess is they were raised on BBS though.

All I can tell you is what I did, which was feed small NLS small fish formula (pellets), Omega One color flake, and freeze dried blood worms. When they grew a bit I started adding freeze dried mysis shrimp and a bit larger pellet (NLS or sinking Omega One color, fed mine both at the time but the advantage of NLS imo is the garlic, probably a good thing considering the tendency to frail health with small EBJD). From my observation the freeze dried mysis was a good growth food (similar to freeze dried blood worms in this respect, but better nutrition profile from the reading I've done).

I never fed mine beef heart; in fact, never found it necessary to feed any fish beef heart, including discus. Beef heart in any substantial amount just means more water changes imo. My opinion is the best thing to do would be to settle on what to feed them and stick with it for a while to give them a chance develop a taste for it rather than keep switching from one thing to another.

If they're not eating at all, one thing I found that few fish can resist is brine shrimp, primarily live, but I've also fed freeze dried with similar results to freeze dried blood worms. Not practical or desirable as a long term staple, but at least it gets them eating something ime.

IM SORRY I THOUGHT I DID PUT IT IN THE RIGHT PLACE. I AM NEW TO THIS SITE BUT HAVE BEEN IN THE HOBBY FOR OVER 30 YEARS, THIS IS JUST THE FIRST EBJD I HAVE EVER HAD..

IF YOU COULD TELL ME THE RIGHT PLACE I SHOULD PUT IT THAT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.. IF NOT THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW IT IS IN THE WRONG SPOT.. THANK YOU JAMEY.

The breeder most likely fed live Brine shrimp. At that size you may want to try Live black worms if your LFS has them... also use a bare tank as those worms will hid underneath any obbject, substrate included.
