Feeder Fish

As some of you may know, I just acquired a Rhaphiodon and I am wondering what the best thing to feed it would be. So far I have been feeding him a rosy red a day (except for the first day I got him). I noticed he doesn't chew the food so I have a feeling that he would have a hard time eating feeder goldfish.

So I have heard that feeder fish are bad because they have a lot of fat and that it is best to feed fish bloodworms and stuff like that instead.

The only problem is, he will not attack the fish unless they are swimming quickly. I got him to eat one by putting a few flakes in the tank and when the feeder speeded towards them he got it. And then when they panic he eats them too. But if they just swim slowly, on the top, or the bottom he ignores them which makes me think that bloodworms and BS would be a waste of time.

What would be the best way to feed him?

And before the flaming begins, I bought him knowing in the wild he eats smaller fish so he would do okay eating smaller fish in a tank. I was thinking 4 or 5 fish a week for him.

So what would be the best schedule? Are there different nutritional values between different feeders? Is there any better foods and how can I get him to eat it?

Current, current, current, current!

Bloodworms won't work, try small silversides floating on the surface instead.

It took me 3 months to get one of my scomberoides off of life feeders, but so far I got every fish to take dead food.

Okay thanks, I looked at that thread so many times and some how I missed the very beginning. Once I wean it off of live foods, would I be able to feed it fish occasionally, or would it stop him from eating frozen/freezedried foods?

Just make sure to load the silversides with pellets (that's what I do), or use vitamins.

The occasional feeder should be okay after he is used to frozen food. At least mine is.

Today I gave my gang some raw squid and they snapped it up with gusto.
