my house!!
I cleared up some space in my room and after moving stuff around and now I have about 50" inches of room to work with.I'm thinking of getting a 48"'x18"x22" (roughly 75g give or take) tank.I can't seem to choose between snakeheads and bichirs. If I go with snakeheads the stocking is going to be - 1 x Channa stewartii or 2 x Channa pulchra (depending on availability)
If I do go with bichirs It's going to be stocked with - 2 delhezi bichirs ,2 senegal bichirs and 1 palmas polli bichir ,haven't figured out a mid swimmer yet.
I'd like to hear your thoughts:).

Both r great idea so if u put snakeheads they r gonna swim all over tank while bichirs will mostly stay at bottom with Witch u can keep more fish
I would suggest that a planted tank with snakeheads is best but if u want to keep bichirs that is good too I would keep bichirs with some large cichlids
Hope it helps u ?

If I had the space and if they were legal in the US, I’d pick snakehead every time. Bichirs are cool, but it just doesn’t top snakes.

I take it you haven't looked at South American pikes (Crenicichla)? Very active and there are a large amount of colorful specimens.

Choosing between those two, I'd go with the Channa over Polypterus, just for the higher activity levels with the snakeheads. Polypterus tend to be sedentary outside of feeding time and just tend to lurk around waiting. to eat

I haven’t really thought much of them. Are they a lot like snakeheads in behavior?

I can't say they have the same behavior as snakeheads because I have never owned one. They act more like oscars waiting for food when you approach. They hunt down fish they don't like. They look like snakeheads and very active, come in all sizes. The only thing they don't have are nasal appendages. The fins are more like fish. Bowfins are closer to snakeheads than crenicichla, but bowfins are not legal in every state. Crenicichla are legal in every state.

Settled then! Getting snakeheads :).
