Just got me a Jelly Catfish!

He's pretty cool, and looks sick when he swims. He's about 9" at the moment.

As the titles suggests, what should I name him (Mr. jelly is out), and how fast do they grow? Also side question, what do you feed yours? Mine sometimes eats thawed shrimp, and I'm trying to get it to eat cut up tilapia.

Thanks y'all!

I've got a name; Jelonius Monk

I've never owned one but I know they get up to around 2 feet long and grow quickly when young like many other larger growing catfish. Probably an inch a month at least if well fed until it is larger.

Pay attention please that PCF quotes lengths as SL, standard length, from tip of the snout to caudal peduncle, which excludes the tail fin. Tip-to-tip length of a 19" SL apurensis is 23". It takes an average fish 3-5 years to reach this size, while I suspect they can live for several decades at least. Mine hit 2' in 3 years.

Max size on PCF is a collective effort. I was behind the latest upgrade to 19" SL and 23" TL for the apu. If no one photographs their fish with a tape measure next to it, the size likely will never be upgraded. Before my effort, the SL has been listed at 13"or 16" for a decade, if memory serves. Shows you how much we as community care about having the right info at our hand...
