I have a 100g aquarium that currently has 2 jebo CSF4 canisters and a large DIY W/D filter in a 15g sump. I think the W/D is an excellent filter (loads of biomedia and easy to maintain), but unfortunately I think it's stripping all the CO2 from the water giving me bad BBA algae problems and making it impossible for me to grow plants.

So in the interest of adding some plants to my tank I think I'm going to tear down my W/D and replace it with something else, but I'm not sure what. HOB? Another canister? What do think?

Are you injecting CO2 (pressurized)? If so, just turn it up higher. If not, then it doesnt matter what filter you use and extra agitation can only help keep co2 at least at equilibrium. Many use wet/dry with co2, most try to seal it up so that the escaping co2 is trapped and just redisolves, etc. I built a sump for my plant tank, but I do not use a wet/dry, all the filtration is submerged and there is no trickling, etc, the drain empties underwater. The biggest loss in co2 in my tank is the overflows. But thats fine, its important to keep good gas exchange and O2 up especially in a big tank.

Howdy,

It is absolutely true that W/D - in most cases - rules out healthy plant growth.

I would de-clutter the tank, get rid of the jebos, and get a single canister that can handle that volume and offers /\/\onster biofiltration at the same time. Best suited are the Eheim Classics (e.g. 2250, 2260).

Good luck,
