Recently my boyfriend and I got a new 55 gallon tank. We plan to move our three clown loaches, our sailfin pleco and our pictus catfish into it. We are going to get another pictus after finding out that they do best in groups as well as up to three more loaches, I'm trying to talk him out of a dojo loach as well. My question is, can we add anything else and if so what would be our best bet? Thanks in advance for all your help.

First can i say, funny username:ROFL::ROFL: care to explain?
I think you need some top or middle swimmers to complement your loaches and pictus, and yes they do better in groups.
I would say perhaps some angels or some biggish tetras like congo's or buenes airies(spelling?)
I dont think you can have a lot but its a start hope this helps.

Depends on a few things.
1: Plan to upgrade, clown loaches get to 1' each, and I've seen sailfin plecos get to 17". Might want a 75 in a couple years (take note they grow slow as molasses) Getting a couple more pictus would be a good idea, and if you want some motion in the top levels of the tank, may I recommend some form of danio. Another note, I wouldn't reccomend the dojo, you might overcrowd your bottom tank and then you have the pictuses tearing up the dojo, not to mention temperature issues.

Agree with lo21,you will need an upgrade in a few years for the cl,and perhaps you could try a few of the denisoni barbs which here are £££ but very nice.

send back ur clown loaches mine out grow my 180 gallon tank i wouldnt suggest them anything under 250

Got any pictures of those? How big were they that they "outgrew a 180"?

Clowns are very slow growers and if gotten at a very small size should be able to live in a 55 for a couple years.

Yep^^

clowns are slow growers and 3 is enough for 55gal. i have 4 in a 90gal. (the first 1 i got 3 yrs ago and is just now coming up on 6 inches.) pictus do better in groups if that's all you have...the one will interact with loaches (and remember, any fish with the name "cat" in it will usually get as big as a dog)...no dojos due to temp. variation. Buenos Aires tetras in a group of at least 6 would be good midrange as they get about 2" and color coordinate with clowns. A nice school of black neons (10) would be good if you don't get BA tetras.

Our loaches are each maybe 2 1/2 inches so I'm not super worried about space for them. Thank you for all the suggestions on upper to midrange fish, I'll have to show him the suggestions.

As for my username there isn't really a story about it. Just thought it up one day and it stuck.
