This one is spotted and has a much slender snout.

This one is more striped and has a mouth that is very wide.

They both get along very well and are always together, they are about 10-14 inches as of today.

Now I would like to know exactly what type of shovel nose they are and if they are the same one or not.

Thanks
Jeff

they both look a little hybrid-ish. Not pure TSN's. They look more like 3/4 tsn and 1/4 RTC. A standard hybrid crossed with a TSN :D

Top looks to be your standard TSN, ie Pseudoplatystoma tigrinum , while the bottom looks to be a slightly more rare, but much more attractive Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum. You've got your hands full either wyay!

both I think are Tiger shovelnose, they did not came from the same river/breeders.

Both were actually trade ins at different points in time, so both came from two different people. Where they got them from is unknown. Not many people bring them in here anymore because of their eventual size, and the only fish store I know of that does, brings in pretty rare fish, but they deal mostly in rare Arrows, or shall I say expensive Arrows. But these may have come out of my home province aswell as we have alot of people that go down to the Twin Cities for fish and out West to Calgary and Vancouver and then bring them back. Either way it is highly unlikly they were brought in here by the local fish store. Thats what puzzles me as we do have shovelnoses here, but the boring regular ones, never have I seen either of these marking before here. Except when I was a kid, and that was at the local aquairum, but it was a 3-4 footer if not more.
