I have a 10g planted tank. Currently has RCS. Just recently started breeding. Anyways i want to add some other shrimp. Chances are they may cross. What shrimp could i keep that would and wouldnt cross? i love colorfull. I love black shrimp but way too exspensive, so dont suggest anything too pricey. And take in consideration if they can cross or not and what the offspring may look like if they cross....
somebody has to know some good ones...:naughty:

ghosty's wont cross and offspring are hard to care for. they are out!

sorry i dont know much bout shrimp im hoping to learn something from your thread...

which would make good hybrid?

my shrimp owners gotta know something

From what I heard, there really isn't a good hybrid shrimp. Hybrid shrimp look pretty much like their wild type, which is brownish in color.

I did hear of hybridizing a Crystal Red Shrimp with another shrimp to make more white, or change the tone of white.

Crystal Red Shrimp also is an example of a kind that could go with cherry reds, and they won't cross.

I would recommend a dark green caridina shrimp. They tolerate harder waters. Alot of the issues which arise from mixing species is not only due to the fact they can hybridize, but the fact that their water requirements are very different. For instance, CRS or bee shrimp which are very attractive require softer water with a low ph. The neocaridina like a moderately hard water. There can also be issues with the temperatures which they prefer. Amanos would work, they get large and are exceptional algae eaters as well and should not post any threat to your RCS. Another option would be Malawa, but they are not very common as of yet.
