What size are Female Mayan Cichlid ready to breed?

She's at the right size to start, just find a mate that'll sweep her off her feet!!
 
Its been about 10 yrs or so, but I had a spawning pair that were exactly the same size and couldnt tell the male from the female unless they were spawning. How are you able to tell its female? Vent it?
