What size do oscars pair up

I have around 5-6inch oscars and they are building a nest in the sand is tht normal at there size.

Oscar's don't mature till they are a year and half old. So any "Breeding" activity is more than likely trial runs and or intial phases of pair bonding if done before maturity.

Ok I know they cant breed yet just confused why they are building a nest.

It's just natural instincts. Even tho my boy Casper is a solo fish now, he still builds fry pits.
