What size filter??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It depends on what your stocking will be, but usually somewhere about 5 tank turnovers in an hour, so 1500-1750 gph (5700 - 6700 lph).

Thanks for your reply - I will be putting my 12" LM Bass in there (he has outgrown his little 140g, I may also put a 12" catfish in with him.

The FX5 comes with a suction and return line with it if you just want to place them over the back of your tank...

The top of my tank will have a 4" ~ 6" wide top (plywood) so hanging the suction pipe over the top won't be an option. I will be cutting holes for bulkheads into the plywood back before fiber glassing the whole thing.

So, if I run 2 filters (FX5 or other) can I connect them both together with T-pieces or will I need 4 bulkheads (2 supply and 2 returns) ?? ?? ??

I wouldn`t join the "supply lines", keep each seperate, but the returns could be joined..oversized, pvc so as not to cause any reduction in flow.
Any reason a sump, or 2, isn`t being looked at??
With that size tank would think your stand would be large enough to house a pair of 45-50g sumps.

I have just been looking on the internet, and to buy the 2 required filters for this tank in Korea, is going to cost me around $500 ~ $700

I think I need to look into the sump idea. What size sump would I need for a tank this size??
Also, I don't know too much about sumps, so I need to know (a list of) every componant that goes into a sump.

Thanks for any help.
